FAQ

Compassionate Dental Care answers some frequently asked questions (FAQ) regarding dental implants:

Dental implants are just one of the options available to replace missing teeth. They are known for their strength as well as versatility in addressing a wide variety of cases. A single implant can support one replacement tooth, or multiple implants can support several restorations.

Dental implants work by utilizing the latest materials and techniques. The implants themselves consist of medical-grade biocompatible titanium that resembles a tapered screw. These implants are anchored into the jaw bone, thereby acting as a replacement root. Then the final restoration it’s placed on the top, visible portion of the implant.

Dental implants are so strong because of the natural healing process that occurs after placement. The surrounding bone actually grows into the grooves of the implant (a process called osseointegration)

Dental implants can be used to

  • Replace one or more teeth without affecting bordering teeth.
  • Support a bridge and eliminate need for a partial denture.
  • Provide support for a denture, making it more secure and comfortable.
Implants are very versatile and can be used to support a variety of restorations. A single implant can support a single crown, or multiple implants can support larger restorations such as bridges and partials. Additionally, those who are missing all or most of their teeth may benefit by using implants to support a denture.

The main advantage of implants is stability. Since they mount securely into bone, they provide the ultimate foundation on which to place any variety of restoration. Especially compared to dentures, which are notorious for slipping out and shifting, dental implants allow you to bite, chew, and speak with confidence!

The main factor for determining implant viability is bone density. As people get older, bone density naturally decreases. It can become even more severe with the onset of conditions such as osteoporosis. In the jawbone especially, this may be even more severe when teeth are missing. For those interested in implants, we’ll use X-rays to verify the health of your bones using x-rays. We may require a bone graft to increase mass and strength before undergoing dental implant placement.
From the patient’s perspective, it may seem like a dental implant is a single piece, but actually, several components make up these remarkable restorations.

  • The implant: The dental implant itself is the part the makes everything possible. It is a medical-grade, titanium screw anchored into the bone, which acts as a replacement root for your tooth.
  • The abutment: Another metal piece fixed atop the implant providing structure for the final restoration to attach.
  • Crown/denture/other restoration: The final restoration may encompass one or more missing teeth, sometimes supported by multiple implants. These include crowns, bridges, partial dentures, or full dentures.
  • Improved strength and eating ability: Dental implants offer increased stability when biting and chewing.
  • Improved speaking ability: Dentures that slip often cause speech problems such as slurring or mumbling.
  • Stabilized crowns, bridges, or dentures: Dental implants are versatile enough to support a variety of restorations.
  • Improved self-esteem: Broken or missing teeth may cause embarrassment when laughing or speaking.
  • Aesthetic restoration of your smile: With the help of implants, restorations look and feel just like your natural teeth!

When considering implants, it’s important to choose a dentist you can trust—one who considers all aspects of a patient’s needs and health history. For this, there’s no better choice than Compassionate Dental Care. We promise to listen to your questions and concerns, and we always make our recommendation based on your best interest!

“…allowed my experience to be less of fear and one of true compassion.”

“I had a complex dental issue but my fear coupled with dental anxiety made it easy for me to not address the issue until pain set in and I had no choice. A friend referred me to Compassionate Dental Care where I met an amazing group of professionals who allowed my experience to be less of fear and one of true compassion. The doctor performed the necessary procedures to correct my dental issue but made sure my comfort level was a priority as he kept me informed throughout the procedure and made sure I was not in pain or discomfort. I now have a new dental practice and in deep appreciation for how they cared for me. Those who understand such dental anxiety, I am a true case of how it was overcome through the care and compassion of this dental practice. Thank you again and kudos to all of you😊”

“This group is wonderful.”

“I’ve always dreaded and put off trips to the dentist. Not anymore. This group is wonderful. Everyone there is great. They understand that many of us are dental chickens. In my experience, it’s very rare to find a doctor or dentist who comes across as someone you can identify with. To a person, everyone in this practice is very cognizant of our fears and they all do their best to alleviate them. Not to mention you can tell they’re all very nice people. If you have a question or concern, just ask. They’ll explain everything to you, and it’s never condescending. I was faced with some pretty major oral surgery and I went to a few places before choosing Compassionate Dental Care.”
